Top Ten Annoying Cinema Crimes

As a cinema goer I really enjoy going to view the latest movies up on the big screen and with all its cinema surround. Though every now and then you will get the most annoying people sitting around you, who seem to want to ruin your experience. You may recognise yourself in my top ten personal cinema pet hates, if you are one of these people then be aware of your cinema etiquette next time you go! :) Try to be more considerate of the people around you, so that all may enjoy a good cinema experience. If you are none of these, a big kudos to you!

Here are my top ten cinema crimes

10. SPACE INVADERS: When the cinema is not very busy and someone sits right next to you invading your personal space when they have literally the whole cinema to pick a seat from.

9. SMELLY FOOD: You know the people who insist on bringing their own food from outside the cinema, not content with the usual cinema nibbles with the aromas of popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, they bring in smelly sandwiches, chicken, and all other offending odours.

8. ILL-TIMED LAUGHING: A scene comes on which is relatively unfunny and the person sitting next to you lets out the most inappropriate, unmerited high pitched laugh. You cringe with embarrassment because no-one else in the cinema has laughed with them. *slouches very low in chair*

7. IN AND OUTERS: The people who can't seem to sit on their butts for the duration of the movie, once is okay for a restroom visit but these offenders are in and out of their seats for the whole film. Somehow they always seem to have a middle row seat and will climb past you many times blocking the screen.

6. THE KID GROUPS: The parents drop them off at the cinema and use it like an unsupervised babysitter. They gather in groups and throw popcorn and such like at other cinema goers. Aaargh!

5. LATECOMERS: We are fifteen minutes into the film, a tense scene is showing, we are all immersed then bang, in they come popcorn in one hand and drinks in the other, wandering aimlessly blocking views and looking for seats. Tip: Get in early! :)

4. LOUD EATERS: You know the people *CRUNCH* they take out *MUNCH* their crisps *CRUNCH* quiet PLEASE!

3. MOBILE/CELLPHONE USERS: The usual suspects, phones glued to their hands, frightened to turn them off incase the president/queen is going to call them. Bleep bleep click click, turn them off or put them on silent. Their only purpose in a cinema would be to look for something dropped on the floor.

2. FEET FIRST: There will always someone at one time behind you who will put their feet up on the back of your chair or starts rhythmically tapping your chair with their size 9s for the duration of the film (well it feels that long!)

1. LOUD TALKERS: PLEEEEEEASE for the love of cinema, stop talking when a film commences.

Please feel free to contact me on here or via Twitter and my Facebook if you have any of your own pet hates at the cinema I would love to hear them or to suggest a movie I should watch next.

Birdman Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

Starring: Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Amy Ryan and Andrea Riseborough

Director: Alejandro G. Iñárritu

This is a dark comedy revolving around the life of former big time star Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton) who was famously known for playing superhero 'Birdman' twenty years ago. At present Riggan is now a washed up actor trying to get his professional and personal life back together by writing, starring and directing in broadway show "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love". Leading up to his opening night he is tormented by his alter ego who critisises him for not being the famous actor he once was. Due to this torment, he struggles to keep himself together and imagines having supernatural powers. Finally making it through his preview shows with Lesley (Naomi Watts), Mike (Edward Norton) and his girlfriend Laura (Andrea Riseborough) it is time for the opening night and to prove his biggest critic wrong.

Overall this movie is beautiful and is a thought provoking piece. The cinematography and editing is wonderful and shows a lovely flow from each scene. Michael Keaton's performance is brilliant and is the glue to this film, he is definitely deserving of his Oscar nomination and could have quite possibly snatched it for himself. Progressing through the film the relationship between Riggan and his daughter Sam (Emma Stone) is great to watch. It is also good to view from the perspective of an actor rather than from a critics, it shows that actors can be really effected by how a critic perceives them.
The movie's ending leaves you hanging on and is up to yourself to interpret what you see. I would definitely recommend that this is a movie worth watching.

This movie received an Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

Favourite Male Performance: Michael Keaton- Riggan Thomson

Favourite Female Performance: Emma Stone- Sam

Positive: Acting performances from all cast, Cinematography, Editing

Negative: None

 Overall Rating: 8/10

Les Miserables

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter

Director: Tom Hooper

Set in France in the 19th-century, Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) is an ex-prisoner who broke his parole and has been pursued for many years by ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe). After changing his identity and becoming a factory owner Jean Valjean agrees to care for a factory worker's daughter. This decision changes their lives forever.
After taking care of her for many years, Cosette (Amanda Seyfried) falls in love with Marius (Eddie Redmayne) much to Valjean's dismay as he feels protective of her. Finally learning to accept their love he helps Marius in the Paris uprising in 1832.
Les Miserables brings together love, passion, hope and emotion with beautiful storytelling and singing from start to finish. The songs feel so powerful and intense you cannot help but feel immersed within the story and emotional at sad scenes. Les Miserables is a timeless movie that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Beautiful performances from all cast members with Anne Hathaway deservedly winning an Oscar for her performance perhaps Hugh Jackman should have received one for his performance too.
This movie will go down as one of my favourites and I hope to one day watch this musical performed in the West End in London.

Favourite Male Performance: Hugh Jackman- Jean Valjean

Favourite Female Performance: Anne Hathaway- Fantine

Favourite Song(s)- One Day More, Stars, Bring Him Home

The Oscars: The 87th Academy Awards 2015

The time is here to celebrate the 87th Academy Awards. First held on the 16th of May 1929 in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Los Angeles, tonight they will take place in the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, a 3,300 seater theatre will be bursting with film stars hoping to pick up the Oscar. A sea of actors and actresses will shimmy up and down the red carpet, beautiful dresses and sophisticated suits will all be out in force. A few will have their speeches ready and a few others may be practicing their gracious 'losers' face. Who could forget about last year's selfie and the passing of pizza, who would have thought actors and actresses ate pizza!?. Jennifer Lawrence will be praying she doesn't fall for a third year in a row. Little moments like these make the Oscars special.

There are a few stories suggesting where the actual name 'Oscar' derived from, according to the academy of motion picture arts and sciences the origins of the name are uncertain, but a popular story has been that an Academy librarian and eventual executive director, Margaret Herrick, thought it resembled her Uncle Oscar and said so; and that the Academy staff began referring to it as Oscar.
The statue itself is thirteen and a half inches tall and weighs eight and a half pounds so it is probably heavier than it looks. The gold plated metal awards costs $400 each to make, although during World War II for three years the winners were short changed as their awards were made from plaster and painted gold.

My Predictions tonight

Best Picture: Boyhood

Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne- The Theory of Everything

Best Actress: Julianne Moore- Still Alice

Best Supporting Actor: J.K Simmons- Whiplash
Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette- Boyhood

Agree with my list? Please feel free to contact me on here or via twitter and my facebook to give me your prediction for your Oscar winners or to suggest a movie I should watch next.

Selma

Starring: David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Wilkinson, André Holland, Nigel Thatch

Selma is a movie based on factual events that take place in a town called Selma in 1965. Prior to this Martin Luther King received his Nobel peace prize in 1964 and was the youngest recipient at that time to receive the award. Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo) begins the civil rights movement with president Lyndon B Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) and asks for liberal legislation to allow black citizens to register their vote. During the film King's wife (Carmen Ejogo) meets with the black activist Malcolm X (Nigel Thatch). The meeting is not met well with Martin Luther King, although he sees them as having the same goal he does not agree with the way Malcolm X goes about his business.
The climax of the film is when the march takes place from Selma to Montgomery. This momentous event is caught on camera and actual footage of the real march is shown on screen.

I personally really enjoyed the film as it gave me a great insight of the troubles and sacrifices that people had to do, their bravery, commitment, determination thus to make a stand and proclaim what they believed in no matter what the consequences were.

Favourite Male Performance: Martin Luther King- David Oyelowo

Favourite Female Performance: Coretta Scott King- Carmen Ejogo

Positive:Outstanding acting, the actors and actresses play their parts so well you are immediately drawn into the film from the offset.

Negative: In real life Martin Luther King and Lyndon B Johnson had a mutual respect of each other but in the film they did not portray this in the same way but this may have been done for dramatic effect.

Overall Rating: 8/10

Big Hero 6

Starring: Scott Adsit, Ryan Potter, Daniel Henney, T.J Miller, Maya Rudolph

Set in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo. Fourteen year old Hiro (Ryan Potter) is a robotics prodigy who gains inspiration from his older brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) the inventor of Baymax. Baymax (Scott Adsit) is an inflatable robot that diagnoses illnesses and helps cure them. After a tragic event Hiro inherits Baymax and meddles with his mindset in order to perform combat moves. Four friends Fred, Honey Lemon, Wasabi and Go Go team up with them to form big hero six.
This animated comedy adventure revolves itself around the relationship and growing bond between Baymax and Hiro. A moderate amount of funny scenes throughout both aimed at the younger and maturer generation. One of the funniest moments of the movie for me was when Baymax's battery is draining from power and his computer state is very out of character making good comical scenes. Combining also with heartfelt moments that will leave you a little bit emotional. The relationship built up between Hiro and Baymax is heartwarming to see. On the downside for me was that the villain was predictable and there was no whodunnit syndrome. Also I found the main character (Hiro) difficult to warm to for the most part of the film. A lighthearted film suitable for small children and big kids alike.

Favourite Male Performance: Baymax- Scott Adsit

Favourite Female Performance: Go Go- Jamie Chung

Positive: Relationship between Baymax and Hiro

Negative: Took a bit of time to warm to the main character Hiro

Overall Rating: 6/10

Into The Woods

Starring: Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Daniel Huttlestone and Johnny Depp

Director: Rob Marshall

Taking traditional fairytale stories and adding a dark twist. Into The Woods intertwines the story of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Red Riding Hood. The Baker and Baker's wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt) must find four items to dispel of a curse placed on them by the Wicked Witch (Meryl Streep) before it is too late. Throughout their journey they bump into other fairytale characters in which they must retrieve these magical items in order to eradicate a curse put on their family tree. Made by Disney we knew this musical would not be too dark but I appreciate that they did push the boundaries with the relationship between the Wolf (Johnny Depp) and Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford). The transition between speech and singing flows well and all main cast members sang to a good standard, particularly Emily Blunt (Baker's wife), Anna Kendrick (Cinderella) and Daniel Huttlestone (Jack). The movie was slow in places and could have been cut down as it felt a little dragged out. Some songs were unfortunately forgettable as they sounded similar and had the same melody. It would have been great to see other features in the movie such as the ball Cinderella attends and the top of the beanstalk. If you are not a big fan of musicals then I would maybe give this movie a swerve. If you enjoy musicals and are fans of the actors involved then go see it, it will probably not be the best musical movie you have ever viewed.

Favourite Female Performance: Emily Blunt as Baker's Wife

Favoutite Male Performance: Daniel Huttlestone as Jack

Favourite Song(s): Prologue and Your Fault

Positive: Singing and Acting performances from cast members, also has a great prologue

Negative: Felt too long, no view of other sceneries (Ball and Beanstalk)

Overall Rating: 5.5/10

Welcome To My Movie Review Blog

Hello there and welcome to my movie review blog. I would firstly like to thank you for clicking onto my blog and taking the time to read and enjoy my blog. Here is a little information about the person behind the blog.

My name is Shannon and I am a third year student at the University of the West of Scotland. In my Digital Marketing module I have been encouraged to choose a topic to blog which I am very passionate about. To be honest with you it has taken me a little time to decide which topic to blog about as there is so much I want to write about. Upon deliberation I have chosen to write my own personal reviews on movies. I have always loved movies and have watched them ever since I can remember. I enjoy a wide range of genres but one of my favourite movie genres is musicals and thus plan on having 'Musical Monday' which will be my opinion on a musical movie and should be uploaded every Monday. Next will be 'Wild Wednesday' which will be a random movie of my choice, then on Friday/Saturday I hope to get my readers/followers to vote on which movie I should review and the blog should be uploaded on a Friday or Saturday, if I don't get feedback I will again make a random choice on a movie to review. I would love to get my readers as involved as I can. I really hope I can stick to this schedule of three blog posts per week but I apologise in advance if any of my other coursework takes up my time. I have set up up a twitter account and a Facebook page for you to give me feedback or suggestions for movies I could watch.

My twitter account is @shanmoviereview where you can tweet directly or use the hashtag #shanmoviereview so I can see your tweets. My Facebook page is facebook.com/shannonmoviereviews where you can comment your opinions on movies, give suggestions or just keep up to date with my blog posts. My first movie blog will be up very soon and will be a review on the movie musical 'Into the Woods' starring Meryl Streep, James Corden and Emily Blunt. I think I have covered everything I have wanted to say to you at the moment so will end the blog here.
                                                      See you soon! Shannon
