Starring: David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Wilkinson, André Holland, Nigel Thatch
Selma is a movie based on factual events that take place in a town called Selma in 1965. Prior to this Martin Luther King received his Nobel peace prize in 1964 and was the youngest recipient at that time to receive the award. Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo) begins the civil rights movement with president Lyndon B Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) and asks for liberal legislation to allow black citizens to register their vote. During the film King's wife (Carmen Ejogo) meets with the black activist Malcolm X (Nigel Thatch). The meeting is not met well with Martin Luther King, although he sees them as having the same goal he does not agree with the way Malcolm X goes about his business.
The climax of the film is when the march takes place from Selma to Montgomery. This momentous event is caught on camera and actual footage of the real march is shown on screen.
I personally really enjoyed the film as it gave me a great insight of the troubles and sacrifices that people had to do, their bravery, commitment, determination thus to make a stand and proclaim what they believed in no matter what the consequences were.
Favourite Male Performance: Martin Luther King- David Oyelowo
Favourite Female Performance: Coretta Scott King- Carmen Ejogo
Positive:Outstanding acting, the actors and actresses play their parts so well you are immediately drawn into the film from the offset.
Negative: In real life Martin Luther King and Lyndon B Johnson had a mutual respect of each other but in the film they did not portray this in the same way but this may have been done for dramatic effect.
Overall Rating: 8/10

Very gripping and realistic movie, riot scenes quite heartbreaking. Producers deserve more credit.
