The time is here to celebrate the 87th Academy Awards. First held on the 16th of May 1929 in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Los Angeles, tonight they will take place in the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, a 3,300 seater theatre will be bursting with film stars hoping to pick up the Oscar. A sea of actors and actresses will shimmy up and down the red carpet, beautiful dresses and sophisticated suits will all be out in force. A few will have their speeches ready and a few others may be practicing their gracious 'losers' face. Who could forget about last year's selfie and the passing of pizza, who would have thought actors and actresses ate pizza!?. Jennifer Lawrence will be praying she doesn't fall for a third year in a row. Little moments like these make the Oscars special.
There are a few stories suggesting where the actual name 'Oscar' derived from, according to the academy of motion picture arts and sciences the origins of the name are uncertain, but a
popular story has been that an Academy librarian and eventual
executive director, Margaret Herrick, thought it resembled her Uncle
Oscar and said so; and that the Academy staff began referring to it as
Oscar.
The statue itself is thirteen and a half inches tall and weighs eight and a half pounds so it is probably heavier than it looks. The gold plated metal awards costs $400 each to make, although during World War II for three years the winners were short changed as their awards were made from plaster and painted gold.
My Predictions tonight
Best Picture: Boyhood
Best Actor: Eddie Redmayne- The Theory of Everything
